About Grow a Garden
Grow a Garden is a gardening resource built for people who actually garden in the United States. Not a generic site repackaging advice from other climates. Here, where zone 4 winters freeze the ground solid and zone 9 summers bake the soil dry.
What we cover
We write about growing vegetables, garden design, plant care, pest control, and wildlife gardening. Every article is written with US conditions in mind - USDA hardiness zones, regional soil types, and local growing seasons.
When we say "plant after last frost," we mean your local last frost date. When we recommend a plant, it grows in American gardens. We give measurements in feet and inches, temperatures in Fahrenheit, and we know the difference between a zucchini and a courgette (nothing, but we call it a zucchini).
Our approach
Gardening advice should be specific and practical. We include real timings for US regions, actual dimensions, and exact varieties that perform well in American conditions. Vague advice helps nobody.
We cover everything from absolute beginners planting their first pot of herbs to experienced gardeners looking for specific guidance on pest identification or pruning technique.
Who writes Grow a Garden
Grow a Garden is written by Sarah Mitchell, a Pacific Northwest gardener with over 20 years of hands-on experience across USDA zones 5 through 9. Sarah started gardening with her grandmother in rural Oregon and has been growing, experimenting, and learning ever since.
She grows most of her own vegetables using raised bed and no-till methods, maintains a pollinator-friendly garden, and has a particular interest in companion planting and extending the harvest season. She is a Master Gardener and a firm believer that good gardening advice has to be specific to where you actually garden.

Every article is fact-checked against USDA guidelines, university extension service research, and established horticultural practice. We reference specific cultivars, cite growing data from US trial gardens, and update articles when conditions or best practice change.
We don't accept payment for product recommendations. If we review a tool or recommend a variety, it's because we think it's genuinely good.
